The Pied oystercatcher (Haematopus longirostris) is black and white with a red eye and bright orange-red bill, eye-rings and legs.
Pied oystercatchers are found in most coastal areas of Australia, preferring mudflats and sandy beaches. Pied Oystercatchers have declined in numbers and the current population may be as low as 10,000.
