The Beautiful Firetail is a small finch with a finely striped black and white breast and a red rump. The head has a black mask with pale blue eye ring and a red bill. It is also known as the Firetail Finch or the Tasmanian Finch.
Firetails are usually seen in pairs or small family groups, often feeding in short grass.
The beautiful firetail is endemic to south-eastern Australia, but is most common in Tasmania. It eats mainly grass seeds, but also casuarina and tea tree seeds.
